West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #3

June 18, 2023

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has adjusted the Evacuation Alert areas for the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

The areas that were previously under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #2 are no longer under an Alert. This applies to the following areas:

  • starting at approximately km 64 on Hwy 52 N, travel south along Hwy 97 N to the Tumbler Ridge Boundary maintaining a buffer of 1 km east of Hwy 52 N;

  • follow the Tumbler Ridge boundary west to Hwy 29 S and the PRRD boundary, including Moose Lake and Moose Lake Forestry Service Road; and

  • travel northeast to a point of intersection at approximately km 64 on Hwy 52 N.

The One Island Lake community and areas listed below that were previously under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #4 are now included in West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #3:

  • starting at the intersection of Hwy 52 N and N Old Fellers Road, travel east to the One Island Lake bridge;

  • following the Kiskatinaw River southeast to a point of intersection with Cutbank Creek;

  • continue east along Cutbank Creek from 1 km;

  • continue south for approximately 1 km, then travel east for 1.5 km to Hwy 52 E;

  • continue south along the west side of Hwy 52 E to km 195;

  • continue west along the Kiskatinaw River to the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary, including the Kiskatinaw FSR and Bearhole Lake Road;

  • continue north along the district of Tumbler Ridge boundary to km 80 Hwy 52 N; and

  • continue north along the east of Hwy 52 N to the intersection of Hwy 52 N and N Old Fellers Road.

This means residents in the above areas can return home; however, it is important to remain prepared to leave on short notice due to potential risk to health and life safety from the West Kiskatinaw River wildfire.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

An Evacuation Alert is issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents and industry operators in the area will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area in case an Evacuation Order is called while you are separated.
  • Pack essential items for a quick departure, such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g., insurance, passports, birth certificates, banking and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents, keys, cellphone and charger and if time and space permits, personal keepsakes.
  • Prepare to move people with disabilities, children and neighbours if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets and pet care items (leash, carrier, food) with you.
  • Make a plan for livestock if applicable. For information on provincial resources visit the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock Relocation web page.
  • Ensure your cistern or potable water system is full.
  • Arrange transportation for all your household and fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
  • If you will need assistance to evacuate from the area, such as for transportation, mobility, health or other needs, please call 1-800-670-7773.
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.

Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #2

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has adjusted the Evacuation Alert area for the Peavine Creek wildfire due to potential risk to health and life safety.

Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #2 includes the areas that were previously under the Peavine Creek Evacuation Order #1:

  • from the intersection of the Gunter Bridge and Hwy 52 E, travel east to the BC/Alberta border;
  • from the BC/Alberta border travel south for 14km;
  • continue west to the Pembina Steeprock Gas Plant;
  • continue southwest to approximate km 212 on Hwy 52 E;
  • continue north along Hwy 52 E to the approximately km 214 Hwy 52 E;
  • continue west for approximately 1.5 km then travel north for approximately 1 km;
  • continue due west to the Kiskatinaw River;
  • follow the Kiskatinaw River northwest to the One Island Lake Bridge; and
  • continue northeast along the south side of One Island Lake road to Gunter Bridge.

There is also a small area that extends south from Cutbank Creek and east to Highway 52 East that was previously under West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Order #3, and is now part of Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #2.

The Kelly Lake community and other areas listed below that were previously under the Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #1, are no longer under an Alert:

  • from the BC/Alberta border east past km 235 of Hwy 52E;
  • south to the One Island Lake Bridge;
  • northeast along the north side of One Island Lake road to Gunter Bridge;
  • east to the BC/Alberta Border; and
  • north along the BC/Alberta border for 22 km.

As well as areas:

  • from km 212 of Hwy 52E south along the east side of the Hwy to KM 194;
  • east to the BC/Alberta border;
  • north along the BC/Alberta border for 21.5 km; and
  • east to km 212 of Hwy 52E.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #2 includes properties that were previously under the West Kiskatinaw Evacuation Order #3 and encompasses the following areas:

  • starting at approximately km 64 on Hwy 52 N, travel south along Hwy 97 N to the Tumbler Ridge Boundary maintaining a buffer of 1 km east of Hwy 52 N;

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #11

June 13, 2023

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has adjusted the areas for the Evacuation Alerts for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire due to potential risk to health and life safety.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #11 includes the areas already covered under Evacuation Alert #9 and Evacuation Alert #10, as well as the following new area:

  • Alaska Highway corridor between Buckinghorse River and Trutch.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Order #6 and Order #7 remain in place with no changes at this time.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #10

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has adjusted the Evacuation Alert area for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire due to potential risk to health and life safety.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #10 affects 370 civic addresses, including the Prespatou and Pink Mountain communities, and applies to the following new areas:

  • 1 km north of Buckinghorse River bridge – south along the East side of Highway 97 North to km 260;

  • west 8km of Highway 97 North due South to the end of Pink Mountain Road;

  • south following Halfway River to the intersection of Boring Ranch Road and Cypress Creek Road;

  • due east to a point of intersection with Highway 97 North at km 177;

  • continue due east to the intersection with Beaton Airport Road at km 37;

  • continuing due east to the intersection with Prespatou Road at km 30;

  • to a point approximately 5 km west of Milligan Creek Road;

  • north approximately 22 km to a point of 1 km west of Milligan Creek Road;

  • due west to a point 4 km east of Pink Mountain;

  • north 4 km east of Highway 97 north to a point of intersection with Sikanni River;

  • northeast for 4 ½ km to Mistahae Creek;

  • northwest to a point of intersection with the Buckinghorse River 11 km east of Highway 97 North; and

  • west following Buckinghorse River to a point 1 km north of the Buckinghorse River Bridge.

 

The area that was under Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #8 remains under Evacuation Alert #10.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #9

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an additional Evacuation Alert area for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire due to potential risk to health and safety.

The following areas are included in Evacuation Alert #9:

  • west of Highway 97 N between Mile 192 and Mile 207;
  • west 6 km from Mile 192 of Hwy 97N;
  • from that point, north to the Prophet River; and
  • east following along the Prophet River for 14 km then southeast to Mile 207 of Hwy 97N.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #8

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has adjusted the Evacuation Alert area for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire.

Most of the areas that were previously under Evacuation Alert #7 are now under Evacuation Order #6:

  • 4 km east of Highway 97N between Sikanni Chief and Pink Mountain;
  • due east from Pink Mountain to a point where it intersects with West Milligan Creek;
  • due North 24 kms; and
  • west to point of intersection (Sikanni Chief 4 km east of Highway 97).

The following area remains under Evacuation Alert #8:

  • between Pink Mountain and Sikanni Chief, 1 to 4 km east of Highway 97.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #1

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for the Peavine Creek wildfire due to potential risk to health and life safety.

Please note that Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #1 replaces West Kiskatinaw River Evacuation Alert #1, which has been cancelled as some of the properties in that original Alert area are now under Peavine Creek Evacuation Order #1. All of the other areas not affected by the new Order that were under the West Kiskatinaw Evacuation Alert remain under Alert as part of the new Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #1.

The Kelly Lake community and areas listed below that were previously under the West Kiskatinaw Evacuation Alert #1 are now under the Peavine Creek Evacuation Alert #1, including the following areas:

  • from the BC/Alberta border east past km 235 of Hwy 52E;
  • south to the One Island Lake Bridge;
  • northeast along the north side of One Island Lake road to Gunter Bridge;
  • east to the BC/Alberta Border; and
  • north along the BC/Alberta border for 22 km.

As well as areas:

  • from km 212 of Hwy 52E south along the east side of the Hwy to KM 194;
  • east to the BC/Alberta border;
  • north along the BC/Alberta border for 21.5 km; and
  • east to Km 212 of Hwy 52E.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

This is the time to GET PREPARED to leave the area on short notice.  

An Evacuation Alert is issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents and industry operators in the area will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area in case an Evacuation Order is called while you are separated.
  • Pack essential items for a quick departure, such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g., insurance, passports, birth certificates, banking and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents, keys, cellphone and charger and if time and space permits, personal keepsakes.
  • Prepare to move people with disabilities, children and neighbours if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets and pet care items (leash, carrier, food) with you.
  • Make a plan for livestock if applicable. For information on provincial resources visit the Ministry of Agriculture Livestock Relocation web page.
  • Ensure your cistern or potable water system is full.
  • Arrange transportation for all your household and fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
  • If you will need assistance to evacuate from the area, such as for transportation, mobility, health or other needs, please call 1-800-670-7773.
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.
  • Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. Monitor prrd.bc.ca and Emergency Info BC for information on evacuation orders and location of Reception Centres and hours of operation.

Klua Lakes Evacuation Alert #1 is Cancelled

We are happy to share that the Klua Lakes Evacuation Alert #1 has been cancelled as of 1230 (12:30 p.m.) on June 8, 2023.

Please note that an Evacuation Alert or Order may need to be reissued if the wildfire situation changes or worsens; however, if that is deemed necessary, a new Evacuation Alert or Order process will be started.

Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Evacuation Alert #7

June 8, 2023

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has expanded the Evacuation Alert area for the Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes wildfire. This Alert is being issued because of potential dangers to life and health.

The following new areas have been added to Evacuation Alert #7:

  • 1 km east of Sikanni Creek south on Highway 97 north to Pink Mountain;
  • due east to a point where it intersects with West Milligan Creek;
  • due north 24 kms; and
  • west to point of intersection (Sikanni Creek 1 km east of Highway 97).

The areas that were previously under Evacuation Alert #6 remain under Evacuation Alert #7.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities or municipalities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.
