Emergency Alerts – Archived

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert area for the West Kiskatinaw Wildfire. This Alert is being issued due to potential danger to life and health.

Evacuation Alert #1 applies to the following areas:

• From One Island Lake Bridge North 10 KMs
• Due East to the Alberta border, including 187 road
• South along the BC/Alberta border to a point that is due east of the Kiskatinaw Forestry Service Road
• From the Kiskatinaw Forestry Service Road on the west side of Highway 52 E north to Cutbank Creek dam west following the Kiskatinaw River to the One Island Lake Bridge.

And includes the community of Kelly Lake.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

An Evacuation Alert is issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents and industry operators in the area will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.

• Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area in case an Evacuation Order is called while you are separated.
• Pack essential items for a quick departure, such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g., insurance, passports, birth certificates, banking and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents, cellphone and charger and, if time and space permits, personal keepsakes.
• Prepare to move people with disabilities, children and neighbours if assistance is needed.
• Prepare to take pets and pet care items (leash, carrier, food) with you.
• Make a plan for livestock, including moving livestock to a safe area (if possible).
• Ensure your cistern or potable water system is full.
• Arrange transportation for all your household and fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.
• If you will need assistance to evacuate from the area, such as for transportation, mobility, health, or other needs, please call 1-800-670-7773.
• Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.
• Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. Monitor prrd.bc.ca and Emergency Info BC for information on evacuation orders and location of Reception Centres and hours of operation.

Evacuation Alert #1 applies to the following areas:

• South along the Sikanni Chief River from the Peace River Regional District boundary,
• To the junction of the Sikanni Chief River and the Horse Range Creek, and
• Due North to the Peace River Regional District Boundary.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

• 1km East of Highway 97 between km 225 and km 273,
• Due East to a point where it insects with West Milligan Creek,
• Due North to a point of intersection with Cautley Creek,
• Northwest to the Peace River Regional District,
• West following the Peace River Regional District boundary to Kahntah River,
• South following Donnie Creek/Tommy Lakes Wildfire Evacuation Order #5 to Buckinghorse River, and
• Southwest to 1km East of Highway 97.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

Evacuation Alert #5 applies to the following areas:

• 1km East of Highway 97 between km 225 and km 273.
• Extending East 88km from a point 1km East of km 225 on Highway 97, and then extending 56 km North to the boundary of Evacuation Order #4.
• Extending North-East from a point 1km East of km 273 on Highway 97 to the confluence of the Buckinghorse River and Medena Creek, then continuing East along the Southern boundary of Evacuation Order #4.

This Alert does not apply to First Nations communities as they issue their own Orders and Alerts.

• North of the Beatton River on the Tommy Lakes Road and the Beatton Airport Road
• North of Grewatsch Creek on PDR 22
• Extending North to the border with the Norther Rockies Regional Municipality

The communities that were previously under Evacuation Alert #3 are no longer under an Alert. This includes the following areas:

• Nig Creek and North of Nig Creek on the Beatton Airport Road
• North of24 km on Tommy Lakes Road
• East of Highway 97 from Mile 120 to Trutch
• Including all areas within 20 km of the Donnie Creek Evacuation Order Area.

We are happy to share that the Cameron River wildfire Evacuation Alert #2 has been cancelled as of 1700 (5:00 p.m.) on May 21, 2023.

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire, the Peace River Regional District has issued an expanded the Evacuation Alert area for the Donnie Creek wildfire. This Alert is being issued because of potential dangers to life and health.

The areas that are now included in Evacuation Alert #3 include the following:

• Nig Creek and North of Nig Creek on the Beatton Airport Road
• North of24 km on Tommy Lakes Road
• East of Highway 97 from Mile 120 to Trutch
• Including all areas within 20 km of the Donnie Creek Evacuation Order Area.

We are happy to share that the Boundary Lake Evacuation Alert #5 has been cancelled as of 1500 (3:00 p.m.) on May 17, 2023.

Please note that an Evacuation Alert or Order may need to be reissued if the wildfire situation changes or worsens; however, if that is deemed necessary, a new Evacuation Alert or Order process will be started.
